This seems to be a common problem as my problem is the same or ver similar to this one: I can't get my PS2 controllers (which I connect via a USB adaptor) to show in the game controller settings (joy.cpl found in system32 folder) and therefore some games such as PES11 don't recognise it. I know all the hardware works as there were no problems when I was using XP indeed the pad works perfectly in Microsoft's very own 'flight simulator X' and I'm sure in many other games. The driver XP provided installed the controllers perfectly so all I really need is the same driver but for Win7 I have tried other drivers but none have worked for this adaptor. The only other pertinent change I have made since using XP is that I have upgraded to 64bit and I have been told that a driver for a 32bit OS won't work on a 64bit OS. So I couldn't just get the driver I used on XP 32bit and use it on Win764bit. Hi, I would suggest you to download the drivers from hardware manufacturer and check if it works.
A) Visit the device manufacturer website and check if there is Windows 7 compatible driver available on the website. B) Download the driver and install it. C) If there isn't Windows 7 compatible driver, then download the available driver and install it in Windows XP compatibility mode.

You can also use the same cable and use your PS2 controller on your PC without installing any additional software! Simply hook up the cable to your PC and Windows will install the driver automatically. Hmm, perhaps it will.

I tried the manufacturer's driver a year or two ago when I first upgraded to win7 and it didn't work properly. I tried looking again recently and they (Joytech) seem to have vanished into oblivion. I don't think playstation would be able or willing to help since their conrollers only work on PCs via adaptors and they don't manufacture the adaptors. Thanks for the suggestions though John.and it's very funny you mention the xbox pad monopoly thing BossDweebe as I mentioned the same possibility in thread I started at another forum: It also has a little more detail about what I have tried. The bit of evidence that counters the conspiracy theory is that the controller still works on their own game Microsoft flight simulator X (analogue sticks and all). It seems that any game that recognises controllers as HIDs will allow the adaptor and pad to work just fine but if they need it to show up as a game controller in 'joy.cpl' as pro evo does, it won't work.
It just seems bizarre that a controller can function perfectly in a microsoft game yet as you can't see it you can't configure it in the OS' game controller settings. It's as if they're saying 'it doesn't exist but you can use it when we say you can'.
